STORAGE TIPS . . .
Box everything that you can – breakable items should be wrapped in bubble pack or tissue paper. Newspaper will leave ink smudges on your items, so do not use it to wrap cushion items or fabric items that are not already protected.
Clearly label all boxes so you can identify the contents and keep an inventory. Label all sides of the boxes so that you can identify the box no matter which way it is stacked.
Do not fill large boxes with heavy items such as books as they will quickly become to heavy to carry and may break.
Try to fill boxes to the top with light weight material such as bubble wrap or tissue paper-- boxes that are only half-filled tend to collapse if anything is placed on them.
Avoid packing items in sealed plastic bags because humidity can cause mildew.
Books should be stored flat to avoid damaging their spines.
Mirrors and pictures need extra protection -- stack them on their ends and securely wrap in bubble tape. Pictures and mirrors should never ever be stored flat.
Before storage, separate lamp bases and lamp shades and securely wrap them for protection.
To save space, stack chairs seat to seat and cover them with a dust cover to keep them nice and clean.
Leave some space between your stored items and the unit’s wall to allow for air circulation within the unit. Leave small walkways between the boxes and furniture in the unit to allow you to easily get to the items you want without having to move anything around.
Refrigerators should be drained thoroughly and stored with the door ajar. This will prevent mold from growing inside.
Under no circumstances should you keep anything flammable or combustible in your storage unit which means no gasoline, oil, cleaning fluids or paint thinner. Drain the tanks if you're storing items with fuel tanks such as lawn mowers and cars.
